Excerpt from "Haiti Mission Deepens Education of Fox Valley Resident" (DFM
Showcase article)
"For Department of Family Medicine (DFM) Fox Valley resident Elizabeth Larson, MD, a recent medical mission to Haiti was a once-in-a-lifetime educational experience.
In the space of a week, she assisted with several thyroid, prostate, and hernia operations; removed a three-inch cutaneous horn from a patient's neck; treated a septic leg wound full of maggots; and even resuscitated three newborn babies. Most cases had happy endings, but one, sadly, did not.
Dramatic? Of course. Heroic? Not necessarily.
Because for Dr. Larson, this trip was not just about the knowledge she brought with her as a physician. It was more about the knowledge she took home—as a person."

Excerpt from Chair's Welcome, Health Lives Here (2009-2010 DFM Annual Report Executive Summary)
"Last year truly began on a high note, with the formal partnership between the Wingra Family Medical Center and Access Community Health Centers. This affiliation created another much- needed Federally Qualified Health Center in South Madison.
Throughout the year, we demonstrated every day how we care for the people of Wisconsin. We had over 463,000 patient visits at 26 statewide clinics; our statewide education programs trained 30 family physicians and 33 physician assistants; and our researchers targeted Wisconsin’s top health priorities.
The year ended with a joyous commemoration of our 40th anniversary. Friends old and new came to Madison to celebrate our journey from upstart physicians to a nationally respected department.
The event reaffirmed what many close to the DFM have always known: Health lives here. In Wisconsin."
